On Saturday, June 9, the Earthquakes hosted their first-ever Amateur Photographer Night, inviting non-professional photographers to shoot the team’s match vs. LAFC and share their favorite images on the Quakes’ website.
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, what do you do, etc.:
I’m 17 years old, born and raised in San Jose. I’m an upcoming senior at Branham High School.
What first got you into photography?
It’s actually something that has been in my family for a while; my grandfather was an excellent photographer who was self-taught and developed his own photos for his freelance business when he was a young man. My uncle is also a freelance photographer who has even produced videos. My sister was really into photography when she was in high school and she taught me the principles, including basic light trail photography. From there, I was really intrigued in the different types of pictures I could take and wanted to create something unique that I could call my own.
Favorite things to photograph and why?
My favorite things to photograph are landscape and urban settings. I especially love landscape because I love capturing sunsets and the different colors that typically come from it. I’m also interested in doing more portrait and candid photography, as I would like to develop my craft in that area.
Why did you want to participate in this Quakes event?
I’ve been a fan of the Quakes for as long as I can remember, so being able to integrate the two things I’m very passionate about (photography & soccer) was an opportunity I knew that I couldn’t pass up. I also feel that being an avid supporter, I had a better idea of what I wanted to capture. For example, I love Flo’s passion for the game. So I took it upon myself to capture moments where he really showed his love for the club and the beautiful game itself.
